Privacy & Cookie Policy

Mobi-Vac Ltd ("Mobi-Vac", "we", "us") is a family owned exterior cleaning company based in Christchurch. This page covers both privacy and cookies: what we collect when you get a quote or use this website, what we do with it, and how to get it back or corrected. We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

We only collect what we need to quote and do the job.

• When you ask for a quote. Your first and last name, email address, phone number, the address of the property, the service you are after, and anything you write in the message box.
• When you call or email us. Whatever you tell us, plus your contact details.
• When we do the work. Job records, including notes about the property and before and after photos of the areas we cleaned.
• When you browse this site. Standard technical information your browser sends, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visited and how you got here.
• How you found us. If you arrive from an ad or a search, we record which campaign or link brought you so we know which advertising is worth paying for. It is kept for 90 days in a first party cookie called mv_attr, and a later click on one of our ads replaces it. It is stored in your browser, not tied to your name until you choose to send us the form.

We do not ask for or store credit card or bank details through this website.

Why we collect it

• To prepare a quote and confirm a price with you
• To schedule the work and get access to the property
• To do the job, and to show you what was done
• To invoice you and keep the records a business is required to keep
• To answer questions and deal with anything that needs putting right
• To understand how people find and use this website, so we can improve it
• To send seasonal reminders, service updates and the occasional offer by email, which you can opt out of at any time

We do not sell your information, and we do not pass it to other businesses to market to you.

Photos of your property

We take before and after photos on every job. They are sent to you so you can see the work, and we keep a copy on the job record. We sometimes use job photos on our website or social media to show the kind of work we do. If you would rather we did not use photos of your property, tell Johno when you book or email us any time and we will take them out.

Marketing and bulk email

Mobi-Vac sends bulk email to customers from time to time. Mostly that is seasonal reminders about when gutters, roofs or driveways are worth doing, along with service updates and the occasional offer. If you have had work done or asked us for a quote, your email address may be included in those.

Every one of those emails carries an unsubscribe link and we act on it. You can also reply to any email from us, or use the contact details at the bottom of this page, and we will take you off the list. Opting out does not affect emails about a job you have actually booked, because we still need to reach you about the work itself.

Cookies and tracking

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Some are needed for the site to work, and others help us understand how the site is being used or let us advertise. Here is exactly what this site uses.

• Site preferences. If you close the Google reviews badge, your browser stores one small item so it stays closed. It clears when you close the tab, and it tells us nothing about you.
• Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read and roughly where in the country they are. It is reported to us as totals and trends. We do not use it to identify individual people, and we have not enabled any feature that would let us.
• Google Ads. We advertise through Google. Google may set cookies so it can measure whether an ad led to an enquiry, and so we can show our ads again to people who have already visited the site. We do not see who you are through this.
• Google Maps. Our service pages embed a Google map so you can see the areas we cover. Google may set its own cookies when that map loads.
• Google Fonts. We load our fonts from Google, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads.

Turning tracking off

New Zealand does not require websites to show a cookie consent banner, so we have not put one in the way of the content. You are still in control:

• Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking them will not stop this site working.
• To opt out of Google Analytics across every website, install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
• To control the ads Google shows you, use Google My Ad Center.

Who else sees it

Your details are seen by Johno, Ilona and the crew doing your job. Beyond that, we share information only where we have to:

• Web3Forms, the service that delivers the quote form to our inbox. They pass the enquiry on and hold it briefly, and do not use it for anything else.
• Our email and spreadsheet providers, which is where quote requests arrive and are stored
• Google, for the analytics and advertising described above
• Our accountant and, where required, Inland Revenue
• Anyone else you have asked us to deal with, such as a property manager or tenant
• Where the law requires it

Some of these providers store information on servers outside New Zealand. Where that happens, we only use providers that are required to protect your information to a comparable standard.

How we look after it

Quote requests come to a password-protected business inbox and spreadsheet. Job records are kept on business systems that only Mobi-Vac people can get into. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold and we do not keep information we no longer need.

How long we keep it

Quote requests that do not turn into work are cleared out once they are clearly no longer live. Records of completed jobs, including invoices, are kept for seven years, which is what New Zealand tax law requires. If you are on our mailing list, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask for a copy of it, and ask us to correct anything that is wrong. There is no charge, and we will come back to you within 20 working days.

If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, tell us first and we will try to sort it out. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz or on 0800 803 909.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
